Catholic Relief Services Advent/Christmas Sale

Each year we offer religious gift items and materials to enhance the Advent season, along with Fair Trade food and gift items made by impoverished people from all over the world. St. Vincent de Paul

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a Catholic lay organization of women and men who seek to grow spiritually through service to those in need. As Vincentians, they seek to see the face of Christ in those they serve and reflect the love of Christ to those who struggle or suffer.

Food Pantry: Parish volunteers serve food and staple items to approximately 3000 families and 350 homebound every month. Volunteers are needed throughout the week. Distribution Center: Donated clothing, household goods, beds, furniture and appliances are made available for those in need. Volunteers are needed Mondays and Wednesdays to sort clothes, and Saturdays to distribute goods and appliances, drive trucks, and assist clients. Mission 27 Resale Store: This is a newly opened thrift store that will offer clothes, household goods, furniture and appliances and offer job training. Volunteers are needed during the week. First Sunday Food Collection: Non-perishable food is collected in the church narthex at every Mass. Volunteers pack their cans and transport it to SVdP Food Pantry. Volunteers are needed. Clothing Collection Drop Box at St. Pius: Clean clothes are needed and also volunteers to transport to the Distribution Center. For more information, contact Sally Vollmer.

Need Calls at St. Philip Neri and St. Pius X: The 2nd Saturday mornings of the month, volunteers make home visits in the Philip Neri area and provide vouchers for furnishings, appliances and clothing. Beggars for the Poor: The 2nd Saturday mornings of the month volunteers pick up supplies from the Distribution Center and then go downtown to serve people who are homeless and give meals, clothing and toiletries out of their truck. Cathedral Sunday Kitchen: Volunteers prepare food on Sunday mornings throughout the year from 8:00 am – 11:00 am for 100 to 125 people who are homeless. Bingo at Little Sisters Home: Both adults and children play and facilitate an evening of bingo for 40-50 elderly residents on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. School Supply Collection

Throughout the month of August, supplies are collected, sorted and dispensed for children in need.  Volunteers are needed. “Christ in Christmas” Store - St. Philip Neri

The one day shopping store at St. Philip’s is stocked with donated, newly purchased items that provides Christmas gifts for 350 children in need. Women’s Prison Ministry

Christmas Gifts and Dinner: Each December, Christmas gift bags and food are assembled by volunteers for the women prisoners. Their holiday dinner is also supplied, prepared and served at the prison. One Net Coalition: This coalition of parishioners are working to prepare women from the Indiana Women’s Prison for successful reentry into society upon their release. As a recent incorporated non-profit organization, they hope to provide these women with transitional employment, skills training, financial sustenance, mentoring and a sense of empowerment. Their initial focus is to set up a business of making and distributing mosquito nets, a trade learned while in prison. Other business ideas are being explored along with the commencement of the 26 week reentry preparation program “Getting Ahead While Getting Out”. Volunteers are needed. El Salvador Outreach

Since 1997, many projects with our sister parish in Portillo, El Salvador have come to fruition. Currently, the focus is on the education of the children in providing scholarships. In 2004, our outreach expanded to the neighboring community in Guarjila, El Salvador, thus forming the Tamarindo Foundation, Inc. It’s primary mission fosters youth projects in education, health, recreation and micro-business. Youth mission trips began in the 90’s, continue today sponsored by Bishop Chatard High School. 

Umoja Project

This interfaith project of 14 Indianapolis congregations serves in response to the urgent needs of the vulnerable children in Chulaimbo, Kenya who have lost one or both parents. Particular emphasis is given to educational support, food security, safe housing and psychosocial development. SPX youth help raise funds by volunteering at the annual Kenya Carnival, held at Second Presbyterian church. For more information, contact This email address is being protected from spambots. Shalom Zone

Is an ecumenical partnership of the Christian Service Committees representatives (St. Pius X, Cross and Crown, Allisonville Christian, Epworth United Methodist and First Friends Quaker churches) who work together on a shared project to assist the poor. Projects included: Habitat for Humanity, Schools on Wheels and Trunks of Treasure Garage Sale.

Pro-Life

Volunteers work to promote respect for life through prayer, projects, service, etc.

Birthline is an outreach service of the Archdiocesan Pro-Life office that assists pregnant women and mothers of infants, with clothes, diapers, bedding, etc. They rely strictly on donations.
