Summer Reading Book Requirements

book worm
All of our students in grades 3-8 will have a required summer reading book to read over the summer.
Summer Reading Book Requirements:

3rd Grade:  Any Magic Tree House Book by Mary Pope Osbourne (One you haven't read before)
4th Grade:  Any Who Is/Was or What Is/Was book series
5th Grade:  Holes by Louis Sachar
7th Grade:  Choose 1 book from the list below. A brief summary has been provided, as well as suggested ages/reading levels. This information was found on Amazon. All books are linked to Amazon, so reviews and descriptions can be read before making a choice. (Note: You should choose a book that you have no already read before). In literature, we will have a unit connected to these summer reading options.
8th Grade:  Students should pick 1 book of their choice to read over the summer that is appropriate for their maturity and grade level. If parents and students do not know where to start on their search for a summer reading book, please see the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 Young Hoosier Book Nominee lists below. When looking at the provided links, please make sure to scroll down to the 6th-8th grade list. Remember that you do not have to choose a book for this list. When the 2023-2024 school year begins, we will have a unit connected to their summer reading choice in Literature class.

Students in grades K-2 are encouraged to read any books of their choice this summer. Many of our students join the summer reading program at the local library, which is always recommended.
