PRINCIPAL’S CORNER

Several weeks ago, I read a prayer that called on readers to share with others how they experience God’s goodness. This is a practice that many of us probably do intuitively in the context of our own prayer life—"How did God reveal Himself to me today?" In the commotion of our daily life, it isn’t always easy to recognize how fleeting thoughts or brief exchanges with others might be God’s way of revealing His messages of love, faith and forgiveness. Since reading this prayer, I have found myself asking what messages God is revealing to me through the presence of certain individuals. In my reflections, it has occurred to me how blessed I’ve been in getting to know the instructional aides who work so hard to support our students and teachers at St. Pius. Although the ethic of care and concern they bring to their work often goes unheralded (I’m most guilty of this), each stands as the consummate example of the "unsung hero." In covering for teachers when they need to attend to a situation outside the classroom; working with students who need extra support; helping to coordinate aspects of our staff "pitch-ins" and gift exchanges; and even helping the principal to decorate his office, our aides have helped me to better understand how God’s gifts of love and support manifest themselves in the daily life of our school.

Saint of the Week:

This week’s saint: St. Luke the Evangelist. Patron saint of painters and physicians, St. Luke was a medical practitioner who befriended and lived with St. Paul after Paul’s conversion and imprisonment. St. Luke is believed to have visited the Blessed Virgin Mary during his lifetime during the first half-century after Jesus’ crucifixion. He is the author of the third Gospel, written between 70-85. His Feast Day is October 18th .

School Mass Notes:

This week we celebrate the Feast of St. Luke the Evangelist. "Whatever town you enter, and they welcome you, eat what is set before you, cure the sick in it, and say to them, ‘The Kingdom of God is at hand for you.’" –Luke 10: 8-9

After the walk they enjoyed refreshments and music from a sound system generously on loan from Bishop Chatard High School.Thank youall the parents who donated food, drinks and their time the day of the walk.A big thanks to our walk-a-thon sponsors and to Maggie Hoffman who designed this years shirt.
